Full Mouth Dental Implants in Mexico: Cost, Options and Using Your Insurance

Full-arch implant options, what changes the cost, how many trips from San Diego it usually takes, and how an Aetna or MetLife PPO plan can help.

Short answer: at The Special Teeth, a full-arch rehabilitation on implants (All-on-4 or All-on-6) starts at $12,500 USD per arch (The Special Teeth, 2026). If you need both arches, the starting point doubles. The total depends on your bone, the teeth that need to be extracted, the materials and the imaging required, and it is set in writing after your evaluation.

What does “full mouth dental implants” mean?

It means replacing all the teeth in one or both arches with a prosthesis supported by implants. It is not a single treatment: there are several ways to do it, and the right one depends on your case.

  • Implant-supported denture (removable): a denture that clips onto two or more implants and that you can take out to clean (Abou-Ayash et al., 2023).
  • All-on-4: a fixed prosthesis per arch supported by four implants (Polido et al., 2018).
  • All-on-6: a fixed prosthesis supported by six implants. Read what changes between four and six implants.
  • Individual implants or implant bridges: in some cases teeth are replaced in sections.

If you are deciding between removable and fixed, this may help: removable dentures vs. fixed teeth on implants.

What makes the cost go up or down

Think of replacing a garage door: the door has a price, but if there is no frame, no wiring and no motor, the whole project costs more. In a full mouth, the “extra pieces” are usually these:

  • Extractions of teeth that cannot be saved.
  • Bone quantity and quality. If there is little bone, grafts or other techniques are sometimes needed (Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, 2024). Read what options exist when there is not enough bone.
  • Number of implants per arch (four, six or more).
  • Temporary prosthesis while the implants heal.
  • Final prosthesis material: for example acrylic or zirconia, which change the cost, weight and maintenance.
  • Imaging: CT scan, X-rays and models to plan the surgery.

That is why two estimates with the same word “All-on-4” can include very different things. Always ask for a breakdown. It helps to read what an implant estimate should include.

How many trips from San Diego?

It depends on the plan, but a full-mouth rehabilitation is almost never finished in one visit. The usual sequence is:

  1. Evaluation and imaging. You receive your written plan and estimate.
  2. Surgery and, when the case allows, placement of a temporary prosthesis.
  3. Check-ups during healing.
  4. Final prosthesis, once the implants have integrated with the bone, which is usually several months later (Gallucci et al., 2018).

Our clinic is about 10 minutes from the San Ysidro border crossing, so each visit is easier than traveling to another city. Read how long a dental implant takes and how to plan your visits to Tijuana.

Does my dental insurance cover full mouth implants?

If you have an Aetna or MetLife PPO plan, The Special Teeth bills your insurer directly. For a full-mouth rehabilitation, insurance most commonly covers part of it, because the annual maximum of many plans is lower than the total cost of treatment (Aetna, 2026). What it covers depends on:

  • Whether your plan includes implants or only certain parts of the treatment.
  • Your deductible and annual maximum.
  • The benefits you have left for the year.

Because treatment happens in stages, it sometimes makes sense to plan what is done in each coverage year. We review it with you after your evaluation. See how direct billing works.

Questions to bring to your evaluation

  • Which option do you recommend (removable, All-on-4, All-on-6), and why?
  • How many implants will each arch have?
  • Do I need extractions or grafts? Are they included in the estimate?
  • What temporary prosthesis will I have, and for how long?
  • What material will the final prosthesis be?
  • How many visits will I need, and how much time between them?
  • What maintenance does it need and how is it cleaned? Read how to care for fixed teeth on implants.

Frequently asked questions

Can I leave with teeth the same day?
In some cases a temporary prosthesis is placed shortly after surgery. It depends on implant stability and your bone, so it is confirmed at the evaluation (Gallucci et al., 2018).

Does it hurt?
Surgery is done under anesthesia. Afterwards it is normal to feel some discomfort for a few days, and your dentist will tell you how to manage it (Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, 2024).

How long do they last?
Implants can last many years, but they need daily hygiene and professional check-ups (Herrera et al., 2023). The prosthesis may need adjustments or repairs over time.
